Only 9% of websites actually follow up abandoners on the same day, and 17% within a few days (data from SeeWhy). It’s also well known that the timing of the follow up is critical: If you follow up 24 hours after a website abandonment, you’ll get 3x lower response compared with doing it immediately. Conversion rates drop to 7x lower by 36 hours. I blogged about this in my post ‘Timing is everything’
IBM seems to have forgotten all about the web. In their announcement of its new 4,000-strong Business Analytics and Optimization Services, there are lots of exciting descriptions of making decisions faster to optimize processes, which on the face of it will do everything from making coffee to curing world hunger. At SeeWhy we were instrumental in defining this market back in 2006 when I published a book on the subject. More than 20,000 copies later, I’m flattered that IBM has decided to validate our vision.
I presented last week at a webinar focused on remarketing to abandoners. I was overwhelmed by the numbers of attendees and their kind words afterwards (thank you to all of you – a lot of effort goes in to making these things happen, and a few words of thanks go a long way!)
One of the topics was ‘three simple changes guaranteed to improve registrations.’ This is a fun topic, and it was difficult to limit it to only three – in fact we could have done a complete webinar on the subject.
